how I prepared for the ISEE and how it went

The ISEE is the Independent School Entrance Examination, and it's used to make admission entrances to

independent elementary, middle schools and high schools. All the applicants going to any grade level

before 5th grade  and sometimes 6th grade. Any applicants for sometimes 6th then 7th and 8th grades.

The ISEE exam always has the same five sections:

  1. Verbal Reasoning

  2. Quantitative Reasoning

  3. Reading Comprehension

  4. Mathematics Achievement

but the questions in the exam section depends on the level of the test. The test also has a fifth part which

is a (not scored) essay that is sent to the schools you're applying to.

I prepared for the ISEE by taking multiple tests, practiced on a consistent basis ( monday, tuesday,

wednesday, and thursday) and learned more test strategies. I also studied some vocabulary, read more

complex texts, and practiced endurance. The tests I took were all practice tests  and I had to make sure to

make all my answers on the bubble sheets so I could get credit for them. Everyday I went to Charlotte

Mecklenburg Library with my dad to study. As I took more practice I learned more skills.

On the test day, once we got to covenant day school (the testing site) we got signed in by using our

verification letter. I took a water bottle and a pencil pouch with me. They gave me a nametag and I

proceeded to the room on it. Once I got into the room I had to wait awhile before the test could start. While

we waited(there were other kids) we talked about what we would do over Thanksgiving and what pets we

had or wanted.

After everyone arrived we were ready to begin. First our test instructor read out the directions and told us

to start verbal reasoning. After verbal reasoning we were told to start quantitative reasoning. Once those

both were done we had a small break when we could eat snacks or use the restroom. Then we started

reading comprehension and finally mathematics achievement. Once those were done we had our last

break. Last of all we had to write an essay on a certain topic. They provided a topic (but i cannot say the

topic because people are still taking the ISEE and they are not supposed to know until they get there). We

had thirty minutes to brainstorm and write a final copy in pen. After the essay we were done, all our

papers were collected and we were free to go. So that's how it all went 👌.
