My winter break europe trip part2

 

December 20th 2022 Tuesday Amsterdam

    For breakfast we wanted to go to a pancake house but instead because it was closed we went to a smaller

restaurant. After breakfast we went to the Nemo Science Museum. The museum looked like a great big 

green ship. inside we showed our tickets and entered. We put our things into a locker using two coins that 

a lady at the front desk gave us. for the locker we had to open the door but put in a coin to remove the key. 

The museum was not like a regular Museum instead of having displays everywhere it had activities it was 

almost like Discovery Place science in the U.S.A.  There were four floors with activities and one floor with 

the restaurant. a while after we arrived there was a little show about chain reactions. in the show you watch

 the train reaction take place. on one of the floors there was a lab. In the lab you could do different 

experiments. You could study and look at ink, find out how a Skyrocket moves, and test to see what of 

three liquids has the most vitamin C. we had lunch at Nemo Cafe then we did the rocket and vitamin C test. 


    After that we went to the Anne Frank house. We arrived 20 minutes early but we were allowed to go 

inside. In the lobby we got some headphones and an audio listening device. Then we started. We got to 

see the Secret Annex and the other rooms in the warehouse / office that they were hiding in. we could see 

some of the items her family used. Then at the end there was a short film of people praising and 

talking / admiring her. There was also a film with her in bed talking to the camera. After that we went to a 

pancake restaurant. We got to Roken station all right, then we went to go see two cool Bridges we ended 

up getting lost looking for the first one, the Lock Bridge then looking for the skinny Bridge because there 

was no Wi-Fi but eventually we found our way back.

       On Friday after the power went out, making our whole neighborhood suddenly dark, my parents decided to go to their  work to get internet. Having nothing better to do other than read but it was too dark I decided to listen to music and  an audiobook, while looking out of the window with my only source of light being a small flashlight. However before  my father, left he boiled water and put it In a thermos so I could make ramen later,      Because I had nothing to do I used the hall to practice volleyball. My expirence at the Whitewater Center Rock Ride Paddle camp

  The Whitewater camp called Rock, Ride, Paddle is a one week long camp in which you do various activities throughout the week. Some of the activities include whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. There are other camps like Adventure camp but they are not focused on certain activities. Below are the activities we did and how each of them were. Whitewater Kayaking Whitewater kayaking is when you ride rapids and learn how to control a kayak. The first thing you learn is  how to put on the gear and after that you learn how to wet exit if you flip over. After that you get in the  water and practice. We were supposed to kayak for around 2 hrs per day but the first day that we were  supposed to kayak they were testing the water and didn't want people in the water. Why we shouldn't give participation trophies

            The tradition of giving participation trophies started in 1922 when a basketball team in Ohio gave its players the trophies. They give kids participation trophies to make them feel good about playing the sport. The trophies are usually awarded to the players that don't score high. However, participation trophies are not only awarded to kids they are also given to older age groups and for other activities not just Basketball. Then, an author for a newspaper named Victor Martinez started talking about participation trophies being bad for kids, in 1998.  Unlike many kids that like receiving participation awards because it makes them feel special I feel that they produced an effect that makes kids feel overconfident and when they fall it is worse.  I play a lot of sports and when I get a trophy when my team or myself get a trophy for doing nothing, it feels unfair.
