My winter break europe trip part5

 

Strasbourg to Brussels Friday December 23rd 2022

In the morning we left from Strasbourg at 6:00. To get to Brussels from Strasbourg we took a 3-hour train. 

On the train I slept for an hour and 30 minutes then I went on my mom's computer for an hour. around 8:30

we went to car 14 and got some food. I drink some orange juice and eat some yogurt. At 9:00 we got off 

the train in Brussels. After we got out of the station we walked to our hotel/apartment. Then my mom's 

niece came over. she had been in France/Europe to study so she just joined in on the vacation. She will 

also meet us in Paris and Toulouse. We went to lunch with her then we went to the parlamentarium. In the 

parlamentarium we each got audio tracks. In the parlamentarium we saw a quantum computer, a gallery of

 historic events, we watched a few videos and also this came with a video tour. Oh and there was also a 

model of meeting spots in Strasbourg,Luxembourg, and Brussels; they were all color-coded too.


After the parliamentarium was completed we left. then we had dinner then I got to eat a chocolate figurine. 

after dinner we ate waffles for dessert. I got a waffle with strawberries whipped cream and chocolate sauce.

Then we said bye and went home.

       On Friday after the power went out, making our whole neighborhood suddenly dark, my parents decided to go to their  work to get internet. Having nothing better to do other than read but it was too dark I decided to listen to music and  an audiobook, while looking out of the window with my only source of light being a small flashlight. However before  my father, left he boiled water and put it In a thermos so I could make ramen later,      Because I had nothing to do I used the hall to practice volleyball. My expirence at the Whitewater Center Rock Ride Paddle camp

  The Whitewater camp called Rock, Ride, Paddle is a one week long camp in which you do various activities throughout the week. Some of the activities include whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. There are other camps like Adventure camp but they are not focused on certain activities. Below are the activities we did and how each of them were. Whitewater Kayaking Whitewater kayaking is when you ride rapids and learn how to control a kayak. The first thing you learn is  how to put on the gear and after that you learn how to wet exit if you flip over. After that you get in the  water and practice. We were supposed to kayak for around 2 hrs per day but the first day that we were  supposed to kayak they were testing the water and didn't want people in the water. Why we shouldn't give participation trophies

            The tradition of giving participation trophies started in 1922 when a basketball team in Ohio gave its players the trophies. They give kids participation trophies to make them feel good about playing the sport. The trophies are usually awarded to the players that don't score high. However, participation trophies are not only awarded to kids they are also given to older age groups and for other activities not just Basketball. Then, an author for a newspaper named Victor Martinez started talking about participation trophies being bad for kids, in 1998.  Unlike many kids that like receiving participation awards because it makes them feel special I feel that they produced an effect that makes kids feel overconfident and when they fall it is worse.  I play a lot of sports and when I get a trophy when my team or myself get a trophy for doing nothing, it feels unfair.
