My winter break europe trip part8

 

December 26th 2022 Monday Brussels


Today we woke up at our regular time, 9:30 in the morning. Once we ate breakfast we got on a tram that 

dropped us off close to the atomium. The atomium structure was built for a world fair that Brussels held. It 

was also to show off the metal structure. to enter the structure we had to wait in line then we could enter. 

We could go to four different balls but the other balls had no support and were not as safe. To get inside 

the balls there were escalators but sometimes you had to climb up the stairs. Inside the balls they're only 

different things. These are a few that we saw: History of other world fairs, light patterns, models of different

countries' expositions, the highest one had Windows to look out from, and photos from around the world 

called A View From My Window. After we got out of the atomium we walked to the design museum. As 

we were entering the museum we realized that we got six tickets instead of three because we accidentally 

bought it separately and combined with the atomium tickets. anyway we got inside the museum and in the 

museum we saw a lot of items these are a few of them: and invention history timeline, a model of a skoda 

all-electric race car, pictures of recent inventions/designs, 3D printer in 3D printed chips, jewelry and beads,

clothing styles, porcelain pieces, and a plastic exhibit. After we finished the museum we went back to our 

hotel. Then after about an hour we got a call from A chocolate making Workshop saying that we had to 

come immediately because our class started. Once we got there we joined a group and started. First we 

made a chocolate bar then we made pictures and words out of dark chocolate, finally we made truffles 

while we waited and at the beginning and then we got to learn about the chocolate making process we 

even got to try two types of cacao beans. we got to see how to temper the chocolate and drink hot 

chocolate. After the workshop we got to take everything we made home to eat. On the way home we 

stopped to look at a market. Once we got back I realized I had some work to do so my parents left me at 

home alone for 1 hour. Then after they came back we went out to a noodle place for dinner.

       On Friday after the power went out, making our whole neighborhood suddenly dark, my parents decided to go to their  work to get internet. Having nothing better to do other than read but it was too dark I decided to listen to music and  an audiobook, while looking out of the window with my only source of light being a small flashlight. However before  my father, left he boiled water and put it In a thermos so I could make ramen later,      Because I had nothing to do I used the hall to practice volleyball. At times there was enough sunlight to read by a  window or do a diamond dots sticky puzzle. My expirence at the Whitewater Center Rock Ride Paddle camp

  The Whitewater camp called Rock, Ride, Paddle is a one week long camp in which you do various activities throughout the week. Some of the activities include whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. There are other camps like Adventure camp but they are not focused on certain activities. Below are the activities we did and how each of them were. Whitewater Kayaking Whitewater kayaking is when you ride rapids and learn how to control a kayak. The first thing you learn is  how to put on the gear and after that you learn how to wet exit if you flip over. After that you get in the  water and practice. We were supposed to kayak for around 2 hrs per day but the first day that we were  supposed to kayak they were testing the water and didn't want people in the water. Why we shouldn't give participation trophies

            The tradition of giving participation trophies started in 1922 when a basketball team in Ohio gave its players the trophies. They give kids participation trophies to make them feel good about playing the sport. The trophies are usually awarded to the players that don't score high. However, participation trophies are not only awarded to kids they are also given to older age groups and for other activities not just Basketball. Then, an author for a newspaper named Victor Martinez started talking about participation trophies being bad for kids, in 1998.  Unlike many kids that like receiving participation awards because it makes them feel special I feel that they produced an effect that makes kids feel overconfident and when they fall it is worse.  I play a lot of sports and when I get a trophy when my team or myself get a trophy for doing nothing, it feels unfair.
